Langenfeld: Committee Approves Traffic Concept for Ara Site
The planning committee has approved a traffic concept for the planned residential quarter at the Ara site. Hans-Sachs-Weg will be expanded, with costs mainly borne by property owners.
Traffic Concept for the Ara Site
On 1 July 2026, Langenfeld’s planning committee approved a traffic concept for the city’s largest housing project at the former Ara site. The plan includes expanding Hans-Sachs-Weg to accommodate increased traffic.
Project Background
The new residential quarter will comprise several hundred housing units. To manage additional traffic, Hans-Sachs-Weg will be widened and equipped with new cycle paths and pedestrian crossings. The city development company will contribute to costs, which are primarily borne by property owners.
Key Measures
- Widening and upgrading of Hans-Sachs-Weg
- New cycle paths and safe pedestrian crossings
- Improved connection to existing bus routes
- Temporary construction regulations from autumn 2026
Further information is available on the City of Langenfeld website.
Impact on Residents
Residents in the surrounding area should expect temporary restrictions during construction. The city plans information events to involve affected parties early. In the long term, the concept aims to improve traffic flow in the neighbourhood.
