Track renewal work is under way in Langenfeld on the Cologne–Düsseldorf line.
Details of the work
Three switches and nearly 140 metres of track are being replaced. Around 220 sleepers and 400 tonnes of ballast are involved. One additional switch is being renewed between Leverkusen-Mitte and Küppersteg.
Affected route
The line ranks among the key connections in North Rhine-Westphalia. Langenfeld sits directly inside the work zone. Passengers on this corridor feel the impact of the renewal.
Source and status
The figures come from a report in the Sauerlandkurier. It states that the current work follows an earlier closure on the same route. The article is available at https://www.sauerlandkurier.de/nordrhein-westfalen/bahn-baustelle-zwischen-koeln-und-duesseldorf-geht-weiter-zr-94484193.html(öffnet in neuem Tab). No precise end date is given there.
Further notes
Status quo or ongoing work alone does not justify a follow-up report. A new public situation such as lifting or all-clear would trigger another article. At present only the described renewal is known.
