Langenfeld: Supervisory Authority Approves Supplementary Budget with Clear Warning
The city of Langenfeld receives approval for the supplementary budget, but the supervisory authority warns of ongoing deficits until 2029.
Budget Approval in Langenfeld
The municipal supervisory authority has approved Langenfeld’s supplementary budget. At the same time, the district administrator made it unmistakably clear that the financial situation remains serious. The city expects cumulative deficits of around 116.8 million euros by 2029.
Background of Budget Development
Since 2022 Langenfeld has recorded negative annual results. The era of surpluses is over. In the current supplementary budget the administration assumes a further deterioration. The Municipal Audit Office (GPA) also criticizes the lack of economic comparisons for investments.
Impact on Urban Planning
Despite the strained situation the city continues to advance key projects. At Immigrather Platz the administration has acquired additional plots. This allows the 2019 plans to be revised.
- Expanded areas enable more flexible usage concepts
- CDU council inquiries led to new insights
- Knipprather Straße bridge remains closed
Next Steps
The city administration will implement the supervisory authority’s conditions. Residents can view the budget documents on the municipal website. Further information: rp-online report on the budget(öffnet in neuem Tab).
